Financial Planning and Advice from a
Biblical Worldview
We hold people accountable to
make wise financial decisions and have a
Christ like mindset that will give them a
better chance to experience God's best for
their life. This includes His peace, wisdom,
joy, and contentment.
According to
Barna Research Group a biblical worldview is
defined as:
1. believing that absolute moral truths
exist;
2. that such truth is defined by the Bible;
and firm belief in six specific religious
views.
Those views
are that:
1. Jesus Christ lived a sinless life;
2. God is the all-powerful and all-knowing
Creator of the universe and He still rules
it today;
3. salvation is a gift from God and cannot
be earned;
4. Satan is real;
5. a Christian has a responsibility to share
their faith in Christ with other people;
6. and the Bible is accurate in all of its
teachings.
Only 4% of Americans have the above Biblical
Worldview and only 9% of born again
Christians have the above defined Biblical
Worldview. The point, according to Barna, of
all this is that “Many Christians believe in
Jesus but fail to think like Jesus.”
What about you? Do you think like Jesus? Are
you in the overwhelmingly majority or the
minority?
My opinion? The above Biblical Worldview all
starts with #2 and religious view #6 –
“absolute moral truth is defined by the
Bible”, and “The Bible is accurate in all of
its teachings.” If you believe #2/#6, read
the Bible, and have the Holy Spirit, then
you will have a Biblical Worldview. We can’t
act like Jesus, unless we think like Jesus.
To better think like Jesus we should
believe, read, and know what the Bible
communicates.
Do You Receive Wise or Foolish
Counsel/Advice?
Psalm 1:1
- Blessed is the man Who walks not in the
counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the
path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the
scornful; [NKJV]
Job 21:16
- Indeed their prosperity is not in their
hand; The counsel of the wicked is far from
me. [NKJV]
Psalm 37:30, 31
- The mouth of the righteous utters
wisdom, And his tongue speaks justice. The
law of his God is in his heart; His steps do
not slip. [NASB]
Human “wisdom” is limited to the world’s
knowledge, understanding, perspective, and
experience. Biblical wisdom is timeless,
unchanging, awe-inspiring, perfect,
complete, and practical and is based on
God’s knowledge, understanding, perspective,
and experience. God is the source of
Biblical wisdom. The Bible says that “the
fear of the LORD is the beginning of
wisdom.” If someone doesn’t fear God then
how can we expect for them to give wise
counsel? A non-Christian advisor or
counselor cannot deliver true wisdom.
What is wisdom? The Dictionary reads, “the
quality or state of being wise; knowledge of
what is true or right coupled with just
judgment as to action; sagacity,
discernment, or insight.” But the Bible
states in Proverbs 2:6, “For the LORD gives
wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and
understanding.”
Proverbs and the world’s mindset don’t
match. Yes I have been reading in Proverbs
and it is hitting me pretty hard. I am
enjoying the peace I experience as my mind
is renewed with truth. The integration of
Biblical wisdom and professional advice is a
value that I provide to you (my clients)
that most of the financial services industry
cannot match.
My personal
conviction is that I would not hire a
psychiatrist/psychologist, doctor or teacher
(not tutor) for my young children, pastor,
accountability coach, or financial planner
that did not have a Biblical Worldview. I am
very careful about from whom my family or I
receive advice.
We encourage you to answer questions like:
How much is enough? Or how much do I need to
save/store up?
How much should I give away?
Where should I invest? Does God care? If I
follow biblical principles will my
investment return suffer?
How much money should I leave to my children
and grandchildren and Christ's church?
